We Are Back In The Room

The cellar has been quiet for a while, though not empty. Time and boxes tend to accumulate together. Since I last wrote, the drainage renovation has been well tested — no leaks, hooray — but life’s other downpours, from work to recovery and a myriad of distractions, have soaked up my time. The Boss has also stored more junk down here “for the tip,” so I’m back at square one on the rubbish-removal front.

Over the summer I escaped to Carlisle for a short break and stumbled across a fantastic bookshop called Bookends. They have an excellent cartography section, and I left a little poorer financially but richer in knowledge. They also serve a fine cup of coffee. We’re going again soon; I’ll try to show restraint, but who am I kidding — there’s something about real books that can’t be beaten.

Those of you who’ve followed my YouTube channel will know that for years I’ve been developing a project called Panimalay. I won’t go into detail here, but in essence it’s a world I’ve been building for war-gaming and storytelling. That visit to Bookends, a few classic Strategy & Tactics articles, and a binge of Dark Ages historical fiction have all reignited the spark to push on with it.

Lately I’ve also been experimenting with AI, and it’s proving surprisingly effective. The tedious number-crunching that once slowed progress has become almost effortless, freeing up mental space for the more creative parts. I’ll write more about that soon, but suffice to say the experiments have been promising.

So, consider this a gentle return. Expect more on Panimalay, world-building, and perhaps even some renewed activity on YouTube after a long hiatus. There’s plenty to catch up on — and that’s a post in itself.

Till the next time…
